Welcome to Food Under Foot!

Founded my Melissa Sokulski, L.Ac, herbalist, Food Under Foot has been leading walks, workshops and educating people about wild and medicinal plants since 1992, when Melissa completed apprenticeships with two well-known Northeastern herbalists.

Melissa graduated Bryn Mawr College with studies in pre-med, political philosophy and women's studies in 1990. She then went to massage school in Western Massachusetts, studied at National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon, and received her Masters degree in Acupuncture from The New England School of Medicine in 1996.

Melissa moved to Pittsburgh, PA in 2000 and opened The Birch Center for Acupuncture and Healing in Pittsburgh's historic south side with her husband David, also an acupuncturist.

Encouraged by her brother Jason Oliphant to turn the knowledge into a website, Melissa started Foot Under Foot website in 2008.

In late 2015 the Food Under Foot original website was hacked, so we moved our virtual home here to blogspot in 2016.

Please check out our books, Winter Foraging Wild Food Feasting on Amazon Kindle, and Tomato Trouble, Melissa's first children's ebook, also available on Amazon Kindle.

You can find out more information about our acupuncture and health practice on our Birch Center website and Birch Center blog, and you can also follow Melissa's writing blog at Satchelful of Stars.
